Tennis in Tenerife is a very popular activity, with many of the more upmarket hotels having tennis courts and, often, their own tennis club complete with expert coach.

As well as hotels, there are also a good number of tennis clubs dotted around the island and I'll attempt to list them all here.

Tennis Zoo

This amusingly named club is found in Playa de La Arena, just next to Los Gigantes. It is run by expert tennis coach, John Debnam, who has a very informative website. For further information, I suggest you check there.

Part of the Chayofa Country Club and previously called Club Deportivo Chayofa, this tennis centre has been completely rebranded and refurbished. The three tennis courts have had their artificial grass replaced and there are now two paddle-tennis courts. The Academy is aiming its services very much at kids, so promotes a true family experience. Champion tennis coaches are standing by, offering private or group lessons. Prices for courts start at 5 euros per hour.

Happy Days Tennis Club

Found in Costa del Silencio, this tennis club has three courts of artificial grass. (If you've been looking at my "Bowling in Tenerife" page and seen "Happy Days" there, yes, it's the same place.)

The club offers tournaments and coaching, plus the clubhouse for socialising and enjoying a drink or a meal.

Club de Tenis Puerto de La Cruz

This tennis and sports club offers six tennis courts for people of all ages. It has, theoretically, a website (www.clubtenispuertocruz.com), but trying to access it results in a 404 message - "forbidden". Best to try phoning them.

Oceanico Tennis Club

Oceanico Tennis Club is a huge, sprawling complex nestling in the Orotava Valley, just outside Puerto de La Cruz.

It not only offers 10 tennis courts, but paddle courts and a large swimming pool.

On checking its website, I'm not too sure if you have to be a member to use the facilities.
