San Jose de Los Llanos campsite is situated in the north-west of the island, not far from the town of El Tanque, nestling right on the outer edge of the pine forest.
It is one of the better appointed ones. Here, you'll find fresh running water, showers and carparking facilities. Unfortunately amenities don't run to toilets as well and the site is not designed for wheelchair access.
Covering an area of some 13,000 square metres, it can accommodate up to 30 tents.
There is, of course, the inevitable "recreation area", which is, as usual, open till 7pm in winter and 9pm in summer.
The Office Manager of the site is based in Icod de Los Vinos and can be reached on 922 108091.
Camping at this site is free, on condition that you've obtained the necessary permit.
This campsite can be reached from the main town of Icod de Los Vinos. The most simple way is to take the TF-373 out of this town and stick to it, rigidly. This road will eventually reach the campsite, on the left.
Alternatively, you can take the more major road, the TF-82. You need to eventually turn left off this road, at a village called Ruigomez (watch out for a striking blue building on the right). This is Calle San Isidro and becomes a narrow country lane. Follow this for a while until you reach a crossroads. Turn left here (you're almost doubling back on yourself).
Follow this road until you come to a roundabout. Take the first exit and soon you'll see the campsite, on the left.
