Rosie's Cantina - upmarket Mexican food

Search This Site

Rosie's Cantina is quite a stylish Mexican restaurant situated in Los Cristianos, found in the Royal Palm complex. This eatery provides quality food in plush, Mexican-themed surroundings.

Although the fact that it's part of a holiday complex might make some people think it's just for the benefit of the residents of this complex, it is, in fact, open to anyone off the street.

On entering (through "wild west saloon" style swing doors), you find yourself in an area which is purely a bar where you can enjoy a drink before your meal. As stated above, the decor is all Mexican influenced - you can expect to see a few sombreros dotted about on the walls, which are a stuccoed orange colour - which does, for some reason, suggest Mexico!

You can also choose to enjoy your pre-dinner aperatif on an outside terrace, situated next to the complex's pool.

The bar promotes a "happy hour", lasting up to 8:30pm, where a glass of wine, say, would set you back about one euro.

Once you are ready to eat, you go up to the restaurant proper, which is on the first floor. This nicely appointed dining room is adorned with photos of iconic film stars - Clint Eastwood, John Wayne and James Dean.

It also has large panoramic windows on the outside walls. While these afford nice views while you dine, the "greenhouse" effect they can create in strong sunlight may result in the dining area becoming rather hot. It would be a good idea to try and get yourself a table by an open window.

All the ubiquitous Mexican dishes are available on the menu, plus some Rosie's Cantina specials. Try the sombrero taquitos, or "Rosie's fiesta", which is pork, beef, kidney beans, haricot beans, pinto beans and cheese. They like their beans in Mexico!

There is also a Rosie's Cantina taster platter, a large plate containing all manner of yummy things.

For dessert, treat yourself to the memorable experience of fried ice cream (always a favourite with the kids).

All staff speak good English and are friendly and attentive.

To find Rosie's Cantina, start from the small roundabout at the bottom end of Los Cristianos, near the Arona Gran Hotel.

Go up the hill away from the sea and go straight across the first large roundabout you encounter.

At the next roundabout you come to, turn right. Take the second right off this street. Now, you'll have the Royal Palm complex on your left. Eventually, you'll spot a small archway and there'll be a sign for the restaurant over the top of this. You access it through there.
