piramide de arona tenerife
The Piramide de Arona is a complex of buildings attached to the Mare Nostrum Resort, in Adeje.
Positioned right next to the ocean, by Playa del Camison, the resort offers many facilites for entertainment. It is, however, the Piramide de Arona that we are concerned with here, particularly its auditorium, where regular musical shows take place.
Although the Piramide contains no less than 28 conference rooms, they are dwarfed by the dimensions of the auditorium, which boasts a stage of some 350 square metres and a capacity for over 1,700 people!
The complex itself is quite striking in appearance, with a neo-classical theme, featuring Roman, Egyptian and Greek influences.
Since its inauguration, the auditorium has continuously staged spectacular shows of traditional Spanish dance - particularly flamenco. All the shows are directed and choreographed by Carmen Mota.
The Dance Company
The Carmen Mota Dance Company was formed in 1977 by Spanish dancer and choreographer, Carmen Mota. With over 50 years experience in this field, her concept is to showcase traditional Spanish dance forms, fused with other styles, such as tap and ballet.
The lady oversees every aspect of her shows, including the costumes, design and lighting. The result is, without exception, breathtaking.
Some nights, presumably to give the hard working Carmen Mota dancers some time off, the staff of the Mare Nostrum hotel put on a show.
It's not an amateur affair either. Rehearsed over many hours, the show takes a theme, such as rock history or disco and presents a fun-filled, professional extravaganza. Performed once a week (I'm not sure of the day, sorry) admission is free.
The shows begin at 9pm and last for around two hours, with a 20 minute interval. Be prepared for quite high prices in the bar.
Talking of prices, admission for the Carmen Mota show, correct as of February, 2012, is 45 euros per person. I believe there is a concession for children.

It's quite easy to find, as it's a landmark in itself. Situated on the main road Avenida de Las Americas, it's to the right of the large, blue Mare Nostrum Resort building.
