Las Calderetas campsite is another official area situated up in the north of the island, not far from the town of La Matanza.
If you're looking for facilities to make your stay a little more user-friendly, then you'll be disappointed.
This site has no running water, no showers, no toilets, no parking and no wheelchair access.
I suppose it'll have to rely on the beauty of its surroundings to attract campers - it's got little else.
Wait! I tell a lie. It does have, of course, the inevitable "recreation area", which, as always, is open till 7pm in winter and 9pm in summer.
The site covers an area of some 1,500 square metres, but there is no information as to how many campers it can accommodate.
The site manager is based in the "Environment Office", on Calle San Jose, which is up by the motorway and he can be reached on 922 577149.
You access this campsite via the small village of Ravelo. This can initially be reached from the TF-5 motorway. Exit at junction 19 onto theCarretera General Del Norte - TF-152. Keep straight on for a while, but look out for an unobrusive sign saying "Ravelo", to the left and take this road.
Stay on this road, which will take you up into the countryside, past the odd farmhouse or other private dwelling. Eventually, you'll come to a crossroads, where you should go straight on. You're now pretty much into the village of Ravelo. Next, you'll arrive at a T-junction with a bar called Tasca Abreu directly opposite. Turn right here, then bear immediately off to the left.
This road will eventually lead you directly to the campsite.
