El Dorado Restaurant Tenerife - quality Mexican food

Situated in an enviable location right on the beach front in the Fañabe area of Adeje is this excellent Mexican restaurant.

It also bills itself on the sign over the door as a bar, pizzeria and steak house.

Indeed, as well as authentic Mexican dishes, the menu features examples of Spanish and Italian cuisine.

Mexican dishes include such staples as stuffed jalapeño peppers, nachos, tacos, taquitos, enchilada, "burro ranchero" and chilli con carne. Items from the grill are worth sampling, with a selection of spare ribs, steaks and pork.

The El Dorado is family-friendly, too, with a childrens' menu containing such familiar kids' favourites as spaghetti bolognese, chicken nuggets and pizza.

On entering, you will be shown to your table and, while perusing the menu, you will be given a margarita, which, I understand, is complimentary.

You'll also receive a selection of tortilla with guacamole dip. As far as I know this is not complimentary and will be added to your bill. If you don't particularly want this, tell the waiter before he has the chance to bring it.

If you're dining in the evening, try to get a table on the outside balcony. The restaurant is on the first floor and, from your vantage point, you'll have amazing views over the ocean and will be able to watch the sun set behind the neighbouring Canary Island of La Gomera.

As if the evening ambience wasn't good enough already, there is the presence of a singer providing live music from the smooth sounds of Sinatra, Michael Buble, etc.

All in all, a very pleasant dining experience, with pretty reasonable prices.

To find this restaurant, you need to be on the beachfront promenade in Fañabe. On the main street through Fañabe, there is a roundabout with a large underground car park (signed prominently "Parking Centro Comercial"). You should take the street down to the left of this, which is leading towards the ocean.

At the bottom, you'll reach the pedestrianized seafront promenade. Turn left and the restaurant is along there. Remember it's on the first floor and you'll recognise it by the large, colourful mural on its wall, depicting a Mexican pyramid.
