chez stephane la laguna
This is a charming, intimate restaurant found in a side street of La Laguna, whose kitchen is manned by a chef with an impressive pedigree.
Stephane Jaumain hails from Belgium, where he originally learned his craft, studying hospitality. His early career in this country included working in Michelin star restaurants, where he honed his culinary talents to perfection.
Eventually, he relocated to Tenerife and found work intially at Restaurante El Patio in the hotel Tropical Garden, where he coped well with the stresses and demands of a busy kitchen. Then, on to Tasca El Palo, this time as head chef.
He has since gone on to win the prestigious awards Plato de Oro de Gastronomia in 2004, 2008 and 2009 and Tapa de Plata in 2008 andTapa de Oro in 2009. A master chef indeed!
Stephane now has his own restaurant, which, though small, is tastefully appointed and can seat up to 50 diners.
The cuisine is primarily French, but always with a unique twist. Delicacies on offer include breaded shrimp with almonds in oregano vinigrette, bouillabaise of jumbo cod, crispy chicken stuffed with spinach and pine nuts, in a raspberry sauce, leg of duck with caramelised apple and the kitchen's speciality - rack of lamb seasoned with herbs and served with dauphinoise potatoes.
This restaurant also serves up a tempting array of desserts, too, with such mouthwatering concoctions as Belgian chocolate mousse and profiteroles with hot chocolate sauce.
The wine selection is extensive, with French, Spanish and Canarian vintages. As befits a restaurant owned by a Belgian, there is also a choice of Belgian beers.
Every comment on various forums, without exception, praise the standard of the cuisine and the service provided by the waiting staff.
Chez Stephane provides a memorable dining experience.

Chez Stephane is found on Calle Ascanio y Nieves, which can be accessed as follows.
Exit the TF-5 north motorway at junction 9, taking the main Avenida de Trinidad road (TF-121). Take the first available left turn off this, putting you onto Avenida Pablo Iglesias. Then take the second right, onto Calle San Juan. Stay on this narrow, one-way street for a good while, looking out for a shop called Calzados Juanito, on your left. Turn left there. At this point, you should be thinking about parking your car, as Calle Ascanio y Nieves is the second left off this.
