St Andrew's School - a primary school in an idyllic setting
I wasn't initially aware of St Andrew's School, until its Headmistress, Marianne Dalton, contacted me via my "feedback" page.
I am more than happy to include details of her school here and thank her for letting me know.
You see, folks, the "feedback" form does work!
This small primary school, situated in the charming, north Tenerife village of El Sauzal, has been educating children since 2003.
Employing qualified, experienced, English teachers, the school follows the British Curriculum and is for ages 3 to 12.
Classes are kept to a reasonably small size, to encourage a close teacher-pupil relationship.
The school consists of two classrooms and a playground
The first room is shared by the Nursery, Reception and year 1 children (3-5 years) and is stocked with a computer, a laptop plus lots of games and puzzles. There is also a "house", a dressing up area and a reading corner.
The second is for years 2-6 and here the accent is on more formal teaching. With ample resources, pupils can develop ICT skills and are encouraged to learn by research, using the library and the internet.
The playgound is a large, supervised area, featuring various items of equipment and outdoor toys.
The School Day
For the younger children, the day begins at 9:30 and ends at 3:30. The older classes begin at 9:00, but also end at 3:30.
There is a mid-morning break - 10:30-11:00 for the older children, 10:30-11:15 for the younger, when the pupils may eat any snacks they have brought with them.
Lunchtime occurs 12:30-1:30 for the older children, 12:30-2:00 for the younger and a hot meal is served.
The school opens its doors at 8:00 and, for parents who have to get to work, children may be dropped off at the school any time after that.
There is a selection of after-school activities on offer (for a small extra fee).
Monday - Arts and Crafts
Tuesday - Sports
Wednesday - German Classes, Board Games
Thursday - Stories and Drama
Extra Information
There is a weekly assembly, bringing the whole school together.
There is a sports complex situated a five minute walk from the school premises, which the pupils may use.
There is a uniform, items of which may be purchased from the school.
