Tenerife English Media - a guide

There is a major Tenerife English media presence on the island, catering for both holdaymakers and ex-pat residents alike.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE NEWSPAPERS

English language newspapers are usually free and distributed to bars and shops for anyone to pick up.

There are four main ones.

Tenerife News

This is the equivalent of something like the Times in Britain. Published fortnightly, containing informative news and insightful commentaries. Tenerife's premier serious newspaper.

Island Connections

Also published fortnightly, full of local and national news. Both visitors and residents are catered for, with featured articles, interviews, events and sport.

Canarian Weekly

All the latest Canarian news, plus classifieds, weather and job vacancies. The only English language newspaper in Tenerife published weekly.

The Paper

Founded 12 years ago, it provides both entertaining articles mingled with more serious factual commentary. It is the most popular of the Tenerife English language press and is published fortnightly.

BRITISH RADIO STATIONS

There are several radio stations broadcasting in English in Tenerife. Some may or may not be still operational.

There are three main ones, though.

OASIS FM

The official and most popular station in Tenerife. Broadcast partners of Tenerife CD (the football team).

POWER FM

Lots of musical variety, broadcasting to the Canary Islands.

MUSIC FM

Used to be known as "Gold FM". Music from the 60s to the 80s.

There are a couple of others:

QFM RADIO

A multilingual radio station, specialising in unique musical content.

ATLANTIS FM

A station playing non-stop music, with no chat.

There used to be a station called FRESH FM, but it ceased trading in 2007.

STOP PRESS! There is a brand new radio station launched this year, COAST FM. Its schedule includes lots of popular music plus local and world news, travel and weather.
Broadcasting on 89.2 FM.
