Puerto de Santiago - a charming village nestling next to Los Gigantes

Puerto de Santiago. If you set off west along the coast from Las Americas, through Adeje, you'll eventually come to Playa de la Arena, then, almost immediately after, the quaint location that is the subject of this page. These two villages are usually lumped together with Los Gigantes by travel companies as one large tourist resort, but Puerto is a village in its own right.

This charming town started life as a fishing village. Eventually, Tenerife's tourist industry made its mark and it turned its attention to attracting tourists. In recent years, there has been much building work in the area, although it's tailed off a bit now.

In contrast to the major holiday destinations further down the coast, this is a quiet, laid back place. It has its own collection of bars and restaurants - and a volcanic, black sand beach. A better beach is next door at Playa de la Arena, with beautiful golden sand.

Puerto is situated conveniently for excursions (Las Americas is only a short taxi ride away) and Los Gigantes is a mere 20 minute walk away. In keeping with the geography of the area, you'll find that walking can be reasonably strenuous, as it is very hilly.
