The Britannia School - a college-type institution found in Los Cristianos
The Britannia School is a British school situated in the centre of Los Cristianos, in the San Marino complex on the Avenida Amsterdam.
Established for 13 years, it is run by Ahmad and Penny Mosavian (the latter being the Headteacher), who have had associations with Cambridge University and other leading examination boards for over two decades.
It has more the feel of a college than a school, which is appropriate, as the ages accepted range from 11 years to 18+. The school follows the British curriculum, including Key Stages 3 and 4, then continuing on to IGCSE AS and A level. Thereafter, students may progress to Cambridge International Diplomas.
The school also has its own hair and beauty salon where students may be trained towards gaining a City & Guilds qualification in those subjects.
There is a policy of restricting classes to small numbers to maximise the benefit to students.
The classes are integrated fully with the UK curriculum to enable students arriving from there to seamlessly continue their education. Students may equally leave the school to take up their studies again in the UK without any interruption to the teaching schedule.
It appears that, as of the end of this school year (2010), Britannia School will be closing. Sixth form pupils needing further education are being accommodated at Wingate School.
