Hi George. In Spain and Tenerife, the equivalent of the UK's MOT is the ITV (Inspeccion Technico de Vehiculos). This is the thing that's displayed on the windscreen, instead of the tax disc.

To get your ITV, go to one of the test centres. They're dotted about all over the place and I know there's one at Las Chafiras.

Cars in Tenerife have to be insured, just like anywhere else.

Regarding road tax, this is compulsory in Tenerife and the cost of it varies according to the municipality you're in and also the power of the car's engine. It can be as much as 220 euros or as little as 20.

It has to be paid between May 1st and June 20th in any one year (though it's best to check those dates with your local town hall). The town hall is also where you obtain your road tax payment form, which you can then pay in person (lots of queueing), by post or by direct debit.
