Camping Punta del Hidalgo - in the far north

camping punta del hidalgo

Situated on the coast on the northernmost tip of the island, this campsite is about as far away from tourist Tenerife as you can get. However, like the other two sites on the page you clicked from, this remoteness doesn't mean that there are any less amenities on offer here.

A reasonably modest size, it consists of two tiers. The upper one accommodates tents only and has room for 15. The lower one is far larger and caters for tents, plus motorhomes and caravans, with 63 plots. Altogether, there is room for 312 people, but, with a ground area of some 24,000 square metres, its occupants can still enjoy a feeling of space.

Facilities here include:

  • Fresh water
  • electricity
  • hot water
  • bathrooms and showers
  • barbecue

There are ample security and safety measures in place.

Tariffs

Rates are charged per night. The changeover time is 4pm, meaning if you're still there past that time, you get charged another night.

Unfortunately, I've not been able to find out how much the charges are. You'll probably have to contact the campsite directly.

The area in which the campsite is found is blessed with some of the most breathtaking scenery on the island. There are several walks starting nearby and some will take you into Anaga National Park.

Also, you are but 20 metres from the rocky coast, where you'll be able to find natural seawater pools.

To find Camping Punta del Hidalgo, start from La Laguna. You need to take the TF-13 road, heading north from this city. This road will take you through the villages of El Palomar, Tegueste and Tejina. The last place you'll pass through is the tiny hamlet of Bajamar.

You'll be hugging the coast at this point and the next village you come to will be Punta del Hidalgo. You'll need to turn left eventually, at quite a major junction (with a farmacia and bank on your right). You'll then be descending towards the ocean and you should follow this road to the end, where you should turn right.

Follow this to the end, where you need to take another right. Within minutes, the campsite will be on your left, behind a hedge. When the road forks, follow it round to the left, where you'll come to the entrance to the site.
