A group of distinguished physicists took an ordinary cooking utensil - a metal saucepan - and, in the laboratory, placed the object on a plinth, thereafter subjecting it to rigorous scrutiny for a period of 72 hours, working in shifts.
At the end of this time, as the object remained totally inert, they were able to conclude that the assertion of the old adage was, in fact, true:
"A watched pot never boils."
