The Magic of Tenerife - issue #24
November 1st, 2012

This is your genial webmaster John with the latest Tenerife Information Centre Newsletter!

In this month's issue, we'll be taking a look at:

- Tenerife Comedy Club
- Northern Soul in Tenerife
- The Transatlantic Superyacht & Maxi Regatta

Tenerife Comedy Club

This club has been operating for three years and offers shows featuring top comedians monthly.

This month, the shows are on Friday the 9th and Sunday the 11th. Taking place at Showtime, at Karting Las Americas, they feature three comedians all of whom have worked at the Comedy Store, Jongleurs and the Edinburgh Festival, as well as making various UK TV appearances.

We have "Quincy", a black cockney, Erich McElroy, from the US and, topping the bill, Tony Law, who has appeared on such TV shows as Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Russell Howard's Good News.

Compering the event is Will Marsh, a great success at the Edinburgh Festival. Tickets cost 15 euros for non-residents, or 10 euros for residents. They can be booked by phoning (+34) 669 622622, or online at - which offers a discount.

The fun kicks off at 8:30pm.

Northern Soul in Tenerife!

For those of you who are into not only "Northern Soul", but also soul music in general, plus R&B, reggae and ska, you may be interested to know of an event in the Pueblo Canario area of Las Americas, taking place from the 2nd to the 15th. Held in the square (down the steps at the side of the church), it is free to attend and, over the years, has become a very popular event.

As an offshoot of this, the group "Soul Sensation", consisting of Tenerife stalwarts Sheila Tyson, Leigh Dee and Scotty D will be headlining a night at El Rancho de Palm Mar, on the 7th. Support acts include the likes of Cy Benson and the duo Kracka.

Tickets cost five euros and include transport from certain collection points. They're available online at

The Transatlantic Superyacht & Maxi Regatta

If you're a fan of yacht racing, or just like looking at oceangoing vessels, get yourself to Santa Cruz on the 26th. This is the date this regatta event sets off from Tenerife, aiming for Italy.

Unfortunately, I'm not actually sure of the exact start time, but I imagine that the various yachts and boats will be amassing just off Santa Cruz harbour throughout the day.
