Sting Comes To Tenerife
Once again, the island attracts a global superstar as part of his European tour.
Titled the "Back to Bass" Tour, it will consist of the former Police frontman revisiting all his hits from his 25 year solo career - no more lutes, presumably.
It is taking place on Saturday the 30th at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López, the football stadium in the centre of Santa Cruz that is the home to CD Tenerife. Tickets are priced 50 euros upward and can be obtained from Ticketmaster or Sting's own website.

Making the Most of the Exchange Rate
For those of you from countries not using the euro as currency, this is a superb opportunity to visit Tenerife to take advantage of the great exchange rate.
The best rate exchange with the euro at the moment is, surprisingly, from American dollars. Not far behind is the Great Britian pound.
I remember a time when the pound/euro ratio had got as bad as nearly one-to-one. These days, the finances of the EU are in turmoil and Spain is deep in recession. This is reflected in the current rate of exchange for one pound, being just over 1.24 euros.
So, a good time for Brits to holiday on the island!

A Couple of Noteworthy Festivals
June contains the date of the Christian feast day of Corpus Christi. In such a devout Catholic country as Spain, this is considered a very important celebration and this applies to Tenerife, too.
This year, the date is June 7th and, one week later, on Thursday, June 14, the culmination of week-long celebrations in the northern city of La Orotava is marked by the "day of the Carpets". For those who don't know, the town's inhabitants create works of art on the streets and squares of the town, using coloured sand and flowers. This is a major tourist attraction and, if you're on the island at the time, I strongly advise you to try to get to it.
At the end of June, on the 24th, there is the Festival of St John the Baptist. More noteworthy is the evening before, when Tenerife is lit up by hundreds of bonfires all over the island. Needless to say, there are fireworks, too!
The best place to be for this is Puerto de La Cruz, because, in addition to major pyrotechnics, there is the "bathing of the goats". This is literal, as goat herders bring their flocks down from the mountains and bathe them in the sea on which, by this time, is the early hours of June 24. This act is to symbolise a religious purification, intended to bring good fortune to the town and its inhabitants.
