The British Yeoward School, founded in 1966, is situated in the area of Parque Taoro in Puerto de la Cruz. Pupils can travel from as far away as Santa Cruz and La Laguna using the schools bus.
It boasts a new science laboratory, a library and a computer room. Near to the school premises is a sports club where pupils can enjoy the use of the facilites, to play five-a-side soccer, basketball, volleyball and hockey. There is also a swimming pool and five tennis courts.
The school also provides a residential area for pupils to board.
The Yeoward School is divided into Primary and a Secondary departments.
Primary School
This has its own purpose built site in La Luz, overlooking Puerto de la Cruz and the Atlantic Ocean.
There are ten well appointed classrooms, all with computers. There are separate playgrounds for the younger and older children. Other facilities include a library, a large room for drama and music, an art studio, a sports hall and a dining area.
Children enrol as young as two years old, in the "Toddler" group. By the age of three, they progress to the "Nursery" group, which prepares them for the Foundation Stage.
Two years on, the children embark upon the beginning of the National Curriculum, with Key Stages 1, 2 and 3 being covered through ages 5 to 14.
Subjects taught include English, maths, science, ICT, Spanish, geography, history, art, drama, music and P.E.
Secondary School
This is based in the main school building in Parque Taoro, in Puerto de la Cruz, and has been extensively renovated. There are some 110 students from Years 7 to 13 and the aim is for the school to have the feel of a family community.
The English National Curriculum is followed throughout Key Stages 3 (Years 7 - 9) and 4 (Years 10 - 11). The school's students generally boast impressive successes in GCSE exams, most taking GCSE Spanish at the end of Year 9. All students take GCSEs in English, Maths and Science at the end of Year 10.
The teaching of Spanish is also considered to be very important to the school. Both the Spanish language and academic Spanish is covered with some lessons actually being conducted in that language.
In the Sixth Form (Years 12 - 13) students can choose from a selection of A levels. They are also given practical help and advice on choosing the appropriate universities and courses for study at 18+. All students leave Yeoward fluently bilingual or multilingual.
