This Irish bar is found on the urbanization Golf del Sur, near Las Chafiras and is the sister bar to Grandee O'Donnell, situated nearby.

It boasts the longest bar in Tenerife and also the largest big screen on the Golf for watching sport...but more of that later.

First of all, the pub's name. Most Irish bars have a name with an overt Irish connection, some less so, but what about Wild Geese? Well yes, there is a definite Irish connection.

The original Wild Geese were a group of about 30,000 Irish soldiers in the 17th century who, for one reason or another, found themselves exiled to France. They proceeded to join the various armies throughout Europe, including the formation, in France, of an "Irish brigade".

They went on to have glittering military careers and, justifiably, this Irish pub now honours their name.

The owners of the bar go out of their way to make the venue as authentically Irish as possible. The aforementioned longest-in-Tenerife bar is constructed from Irish oak by Irish craftsmen. The Guinness that they sell is also imported from Ireland - Dublin, actually and takes its place alongside a collection of 10 other draught beers. For lovers of whiskey, guess what? You've got 22 different ones to choose from!

But this pub isn't the place to go just to drink - there is food on offer, too.

Breakfasts are avaiable, from the "Geese Big Breakfast", with two of everything, to more modest repasts like beans on toast.

Lunchtimes feature all the classic "pub grub" dishes and there's also a children's menu.

Flanagan's Sibin

This is an annex to the main bar and is a smaller room where smoking is allowed. You have to be "resident" to use it...but don't worry - one visit to the main bar then qualifies you as a "resident".

As well as the huge screen for TV, mentioned above, there are 12 other plasma screens dotted about the venue, showing sporting events, sometimes up to six different ones at the same time.

GAA (Gaelic football) matches are shown, plus three live premier league games over each weekend.

Come the evening, there is live entertainment every night. I'm not sure who is appearing at the moment, but you can bet it will be top Tenerife cabaret.

The Wild Geese Bar, in typical Irish fashion, assures you of a warm and friendly welcome.

To find it, leave the TF-1 motorway at junction 24, take the sign initially for Los Abrigos, then enter Golf del Sur. Eventually, you'll be on the one-way ring road and you should watch out for Grandee O'Donnell, on your left, opposite the Green Park complex. Carry on past, following the road round, when you'll see a filter lane to turn right. Get in this and turn right, following this road round. Eventually, you'll see the bar, on your right.
