There are several hotels in the resort towns of Tenerife that cater for disabled holidaymakers - and some of them are quite prestigious. Let's look at the different areas.

Costa Adeje

Hotel Jardines de Nivaria

This is a five star hotel that's so prestigious I've given it its own page elsewhere on this site. You can access this page here.

It is equipped with such aids as grab rails, ramped pool access, wheel-in showers, plus wheelchair friendly hotel transfers and excursions.

The hotel also has mobility scooters for hire.

Door widths are 85cm; bed heights are 48cm; toilet heights are 40cm.

Sheraton La Caleta

Another five star hotel in this fashionable area of south Tenerife. It offers good wheelchair access throughout the hotel and all accessible rooms are sea-view.

These rooms all feature wheel-in showers with shower seats. There are mobility scooters for hire and wheelchair friendly hotel transfers are available.

The heated pool is equipped with a hoist.

Door widths are 80cm; bed heights are 60cm; toilet heights are 44cm.

Hotel Gran Tacande

A beautiful, five star hotel that has access to the superb Playa del Duque beach. While there is a certain amount of access in this hotel, it is not as comprehensive as the previous two.

It does, however, feature spacious rooms with bathrooms containing wheel-in showers, though they are quite narrow and there are no grab rails.

Shower chairs, hoists and mobility scooters are available for hire.

There is no data on door widths or bed and toilet heights.

Hotel La Plantacion del Sur

Situated on a hill between the beaches of La Caleta and El Duque, one immediate disadvantage for wheelchair users is that the road down to these beaches is quite steep.

The hotel, however, is de-luxe five star and has good access throughout the hotel and grounds. Its rooms feature disabled facilities such as wheel-in showers and grab rails.

There are shower chairs, hoists and mobility scooters for hire and wheelchair friendly hotel transfers can be arranged.

Hotel Be Live La Niña

A reasonably new, four-star hotel located very close to the beach.

Featuring bathrooms with wheel-in showers, seats and grab rails, the hotel also has good access throughout, including the grounds.

Hoists and scooters are available for hire and there are wheelchair friendly hotel transfers on offer.

Hotel Jardin Tropical

Situated next to the Puerto Colon marina, this is a four-star hotel. Many of its areas are not accessible to wheelchairs, but there are some restaurants, a bar and a swimming pool that are.

Bathrooms in the accommodation come equipped with wheel-in showers. All the usual disabled aids are available for hire.

Isla Bonita Hotel Complex

This fine holiday complex is found in the area of Playa Fanabe quite near to the beach.

The buildings and surrounding areas are accessible and the specially adapted rooms have wheel-in showers. All the usual disabled aids are available for hire.

Los Cristianos

Mar Y Sol

This hotel is one that is specifically for disabled people. Situated at the eastern end of Los Cristianos, about a ten or 15 minute walk, or wheel, from the beach.

It is totally wheelchair friendly and all the rooms have bathrooms with wheel-in showers. Most have an elevated toilet, with grips.

The two large swimming pools both have hoists and the hotel boasts a modern therapy centre.

The usual disabled aids are available for hire and there are wheelchair friendly hotel transfers.

Hotel Mar y Sol also provides excursions both for disabled and able-bodied, plus a free shuttle service to the accessible beach five days a week.

Playa de Las Americas

Roca Nivaria

Found in the charming, upmarket, picturesque area of Playa Paraiso, on the Costa Adeje, this 5-star hotel affords stunning views of the Altantic Ocean.

Its minimalist design is tempered with traditional and oriental influences.

Part of the Adrian Hoteles chain, its sister hotel is the super luxurious Jardines de Nivaria.

The one disadvantge is that it doesn't have its own beach - the nearest one is Playa Fanabe, just over six miles away.

It is very good on accessibility, with numerous ramps, although some are quite steep and, for those without motorised wheelchairs, some assistance may be required.

Regarding rooms, the wheelchair-adapted ones are situated on the ground floor and are large units, with bathrooms featuring a roll-in shower, plus a separate bath.

Disabled aids, such as commode shower chairs, hoists and scooters are available, but must be arranged at the time of booking. There are also wheelchair-friendly airport transfers.

Fanabe Costa Sur

This 4-star hotel is found in Costa Adeje, very convenient for the two beaches, Playa Fanabe and Playa del Duque. Situated in a primarily residential area, it's also only just over half a mile from the Aqualand water park.

The hotel provides good access throughout and disabled facilities include wheel-in showers, shower seats and toilet raisers. Once again, all disabled aids are available, arranged at the time of booking.

Hotel Vulcano

Very strategically placed in a nice part of Playa de Las Americas, this hotel is convenient for beaches, golf course, shopping and entertainment.

Famous for its botanical garden and excellent cuisine, it offers good access throughout the hotel and its grounds. Where there are kerbs, there are wheelchair-friendly slopes. All the usual disabled aids are available at booking.

Hotel La Siesta

This hotel is situated in the heart of Playa de Las Americas, just opposite the area known as "Patch", a major centre for nightlife in the town.

There's a famous beach only about 200 yards away, plus shopping and nighttime bars and restuarants aplenty.

The hotel offers good access throughout. The pool has ramped access and bathrooms feature a wheel-in shower.

There are a total of five disabled-friendly rooms: two standard and three "Club Alexandre", which offer a superior service with an added touch of luxury.

All disabled aids are available at the time of booking.

Zentral Center

A comparitively young hotel, this was built as recently as 2003. It's slap bang in the centre of Las Americas and is convenient for all manner of things, such as shops, nightlife and restaurants. The superb Las Vistas beach is reasonably close by, too.

There are 11 accessible rooms and these are well equipped for wheelchair users, with grab rails in both the toilet and shower, plus a drop down chair in the shower. The pool has a ramp access and a hoist.

The usual aids are available.

Puerto de La Cruz

Oasis Orotava Palace Hotel

This is a luxury hotel in Puerto de La Cruz, very near to the sea. It's also convenient for the major swimming pool complex Lago Martíanez.

There is good access throughout the hotel and it also features four disabled-adapted rooms, with wheel-in showers and grab rails.

Bedroom doors are 78cm and bathroom doors are 80cm.
