Volare Cabaret Showbar Tenerife - a very stylish venue

When husband and wife Gary and Joanne plus their son Charlie relocated to Tenerife, they needed a business venture to run.

As Gary had been an entertainer in the UK for some 25 years, it was almost inevitable that that business would be some sort of entertainment venue.

After finding an appropriate locale in an apartment complex on Golf del Sur - at the time little more than an empty shell, Gary set about designing and building the venue to his own unique specifications.

The result was the very stylish Volare Cabaret Showbar.

The bar was opened in August 2009. It has very clean lines and, to me, the design has a kind of art deco feel.

To complement this classy setting, Gary realised that, as a showbar, the acts would need comperes to bring them on stage. He has managed to recruit not just one, but two extremely seasoned and professional comperes in the shape of Ray Wilde, with over 10 years' experience and Ronnie J. Haynes, who can trump even that, with a successful Tenerife career of over 20!

When it came to the live acts, Gary had a head start, as he himself is a singer - as is his son, Charlie. It doesn't end there - they also have a daughter who sings! Cherie lives in the UK, but visits frequently and always takes to the stage.

As far as actual booked acts are concerned, the accent is very much on Motown and swing music. You can be assured that only the top, most professional artistes will be gracing the stage of this venue.

Primarily an entertainment establishment, as far as I know, there is no food served, although, according to the bar's Facebook page, the family now also have a tapas bar next door, called "Tapas 'n' Chill".

There is, of course, a comprehensive collection of drinks on offer, including their "mega-cocktails". Imagine a normal sized cocktail glass, then make it about three times bigger! These glasses must hold at least a pint! If you have the glass on your table, you have to stand up to drink it, it's that tall!

"Mega-cocktails" are on offer for 4.50 euros. One should be enough for anyone.

To find this bar, you need to first get yourself onto the Golf del Sur urbanization, which is accessed from the TF-1 motorway (exit San Miguel/Los Abrigos), following initially the Los Abrigos sign.

You'll see the entrance road to the Golf del Sur and, after taking this, you'll eventually be on the long, one-way ring road. Watch out for a prominent bar on the left called Grandee O'Donnell. Soon after this, you'll see a filter lane for turning right. Take this, turn right and follow this road round.

Watch out for an apartment block on the left called Edificio Aguamarina and Volare is found within this building.
