Tacoronte Carnival - a little more modest than the big two!

Tacoronte carnival - otherwise known as Piñata Chica is a more modest affair than the big two nearby, but worthy of note nonetheless.

The sequence of events follows generally the same plan as all the other carnivals.

The programme is roughly as follows:

Performance of Murgas

"Murgas" are comedy groups and the carnival opens with performances from a selection of them, taking place in the Auditorio Municipal Capitol.

Carnival Saturday

There are events through the day, beginning at 11am with a Farmers' market.

At noon, there is a procession of musicians and murgas

In the evening, beginning at 11pm, there is a party at Plaza La Estación in the centre of town, featuring a live band.

Carnival Sunday

On this day, there is a unique feature of this carnival - the procession of vintage cars.

This occurs at 11am and these classic cars parade through the streets, stopping for a little wine tasting at El Fotingo.

At 4pm, there is a procession starting at the El Cantillo area, progressing via Plaza La Estación, to Plaza del Cristo, consisting of various groups representing the carnival.

Later, at 7pm, there is another party with a live band.

Burial of the Sardine

This consists of a procession of floats, ending at Plaza La Estación, where the memorial service and the burial takes place.

At 11pm, it is the carnival closing party - much revelry with music and lots of cross-dressing men!
