Scam In Adeje

by Janet
(Coventry)

Had a lovely holiday at the Iberostar in Adeje.
Until we bought a tablet in Klick Cash & Carry underneath
the Hotel. We paid cash but they kept saying we need to put all sorts of things on it. The day before we were due to come home we at last got it. But Gary (that is what he called himself have found he also goes by the name Gandor Singh) said if we gave him a card he could give us a guarantee and also wanted ID. I gave him my driving licence as I never part with my passport. He then signed us up with Vodafone for Internet phone etc with my husband's credit card. When we got home I found £1274.17 was taken from my bank. My husband found £4600 was taken from his account. Still waiting to find out if banks will give us the money back. So beware of this shop and others like it in the Island. They seem to be so nice and suck you in.

Just seen your comments. We too were taken in a shop in Los Cristianos by R&B CAFE. Did you get your money back from the bank?

Rip Off Tenerife Not Going Back
by: Anonymous

Don't think that I shall be returning to Tenerife as I was used in this scam to buy a tablet, on the beach. They are from India so they say, ripping people off. Beware. Not had money back from the bank. It's a tobacco shop on the front in Los Cristianos. Yes, they wiped us out no money left in account. How long will it take for them to get caught? All that money they have taken off holiday makers. Disgusting people.

Name Where It Went
by: Jan

Was it Peuquera Canina Las Palmas or Orlando Juan Perez Los Palmas both in Gran Canaria? That is where the money went from our banks. I also informed ActionFraud Police in UK. The more of us that do this the more likely they will be caught.
I am also going to write to Tenerife Government.

KEEP TRYING
by: JAN

At last we got our money back from banks. I have also heard from the consumer office in Adeje that the gang has been caught. It has been four months fighting with the banks but kept going. I had to write to Chief Ex in the end. Hope anyone that has been scammed has kept fighting, it's worth it in the end.

Dodgy Shops
by: Lynn

My gullible husband bought a video camera from a dodgy shop on the beachfront. I thought he'd lost his mind. They then started the same nonsense - adding things on and wanting his card details. My husband finally came to his senses and demanded a refund which they refused. I went mad shouting & screaming at them. They flung me out of the shop and told my husband to control his wife lol. I stood outside shouting and telling everyone not to shop there I told them I would stay there all day so they finally gave my husband his money back. Will never buy electronic goods abroad.

Costa Adeje Scam
by: Anonymous

We went to Costa Adeje, Tenerife last year for a month in June. I was dragged into a shop on the beach front right in front of the hotel Bahia Princess - come out back of hotel down steps to beach road, shop was first on the left - yellow blinds. They do excursions, one half electrical and clothing in the other. I bought a tablet, cash. Was asked how long I was staying for and was told to bring the tablet back into the shop on my last day and they would set it all up for me. Free insurance, all free channels. I went back like a fool. They asked me if I had brought my passport and credit card with me. I said no. They told me I needed to go and get them because they had to set up a direct line between my bank and the shop insurance in case anything went wrong. I would be able to make a direct claim directly into my bank account. They also photocopied my passport for security reasons. Needless to say, when we got home I went to my bank just on a hunch I had been scammed and, lo and behold, I had almost a thousand pounds taken from my account. The company logo on my balance sheet went to Disney World company. Look out for that shop, can't miss it, all done out in yellow, foot of stairs in front of Bahia Princess. Beware! We will never go back to Tenerife again.
