Sabor Canario La Orotava - a charmingly rustic Canarian restaurant

This intimate Canarian restaurant is found within the Hotel Rural Orotava (it has its own separate entrance) and occupies a central, open patio area.

You can partake of your meal in a beautiful, quiet, shady courtyard which is charmingly rustic - even down to the gingham tablecloths!

The restaurant and the hotel are in an old, traditional building that dates from the 16th century. It was renovated in 1994, when care was taken to preserve all the original features. It finally became a hotel in 2004.

As is stated above, the restaurant offers traditional Canarian cuisine. It is of such fine quality that the restaurant has twice been awarded the Plato de Oro (Gold Plate) for Canarian gastronomy.

Such authentic dishes are available as roasted gofio with coriander and cheese, rabbit in salmorejo sauce and quesillo. Representing starter, main and dessert respectively, a meal like that is about as Canarian as you can get! According to the restaurant's website, the cost of these three courses would be 16.40 euros.

Of course, there are many more things on the menu, all resonably priced.

Equally extensive is the choice of wine. With its location in La Orotava, centre of a famous wine producing area, many fine local vintages are available.

This restaurant can be accessed from the TF-5 (north motorway). Exit at junction 33 and take the TF-211 El Ramal road. At the next roundabout, take the first exit, which is TF-21. You have to take a right off this, immediately after a bar on your right called Los Chicos Del Valle. Follow this road round and it might be an idea at this point to look for a parking space. The reason is, the restaurant is a bit further on down this road (on the left), but, by then, it's turned into a narrow one-way street and there is nowhere to park.
