As I said on the main "Eating Out" page, this establishment is not strictly a restaurant, but more a haven for those of you with a sweet tooth!

It is billed outside as a pasteleria and a patisserie. Now, most of you might know that a patisserie is a venue concerned with pastries, but the other term refers to the Spanish word pastel, which means "pie".

In essence, then, this charming place specialises in pies, cakes and pastries. It's also billed - in English - as a "Tea Room", so it's an ideal place to relax with a bit of afternoon tea and a selection of sweet delights, when the old alcohol intake needs a bit of a break.

The place is situated in the heart of the Santiago del Teide area of Los Gigantes and is housed in a sort of traditional building, in the sense that it has those iconic Canarian balconies. There are tables up on these balconies, where you can have a bird's-eye view of all the comings and goings on the street below.

Established since 1985, the interior is very tasteful and spacious. Specialities of the house include black forest gateau, croissants, all manner of cakes, plus sandwiches, ice creams, milkshakes, coffees and fruit juices.

Of course, it also serves as a takeaway shop, where you can purchase all your bread and pastry requirements.

Pasteleria Bamboo is on the main one-way ring road around the Santiago del Teide area. In the direction of the traffic, you have to go almost all the way round this and you'll see it, on the left, with distinctive, white awnings.
