Hi
I can't seem to find any translation or idea of what the word Icod, as in Icod el Alto or Icod de los Vinos, means or where the word comes from. Do you have any ideas?
Many thanks,

I would love to be christened. I am 60 yrs old and recovering from breast cancer. I have my 'canary family of 40 yrs and visiting on 11th April for 1 week. Is it possible obviously a donation to be christened with 2 of them present and my best friend from England? I have started Catholic lessons in England twice but never been christened.
This would mean so much to me.

While recently staying in PDLC I noted that the main street lights were off down by the front at night. Crossing the road by the H10 towards the San Felipe was dodgy. Also the sidewalks have missing slats by the tree bases so in the dark are a potential hazard.
Is the council saving money or was there a problem for the 10 days I was there?

We found the Orotavo shop of Rafael Saigi and admired the superb wood turned items for sale = very high class workmanship. Bought a 'Benegal' shaped item and would like a translation of the following woods or techniques - palasanto, apilados and anillos, sabina, nazareno, verrugo de roble, cooba ahumada y nispero. My husband is a cabinet maker and we collect beautiful wooden objects. Looked on the Espacio Saigi site and others but can't find translations. Thanks for your help.

I know that this is a bit of an "earthy" question, but this is a genuine question. Can you tell me if there are specific areas of Tenerife that do not allow the flushing of toilet paper please? I am particularly interested in the north of the island.
I've noticed that although the airports have always had this horrid usage of open, smelly, bins in the toilets, it is becoming more widespread over the island. I have visited Tenerife three times this year and the bins are becoming more common. If this is because the sewage systems cannot handle the paper waste, would macerators not be possible? I would have thought that the health risks from the use of open bins would be high. Also, do they not attract cockroaches too?

Why is nothing getting done? We were walking past same shop with same named people. They saw we had fags in a bag and said come and look ours are cheaper then they start going on about a samsung tablet. We paid 39 euro cash and he said his friend would set it up then he said do we have smart TV at home? If so another tablet would be better value cos it's satellite and would not need wifi and can even get sports, movies, even porn. They give you drinks, food and other goods, eg a case, plugs and a nice bag from shop. Pick you up after tax form and email. Sent to airport and take your address for guarantee for Currys or Argos. Our debit cards wouldn't work so said pay by credit card which we hardly ever use. They pick us up by taxi to get tablet to learn they only wanted to get card out again but only to use for verification for no cash to be taken out for 2 months of TWENTY POUNDS to be taken out for Google contract for hard disk. We returned home to find account saying £00.00. Hope they rot in hell - oh and they took our email address to send us information about apartments behind their shops for rent next year. Will never go there again.

Hi,
I am travel agent/wedding coordinator from London and writing you on behalf of my customers.
They would love to get marry next year June in Tenerife. After all researches we found the easier way would be to do religious ceremony instead of civil one.
Your help answering these few questions would be much appreciated.
1. If they want religious ceremony what steps we have to do first and is it going to be legally recognised in UK? Or civil marriage back home is still required?
2. If they having civil ceremony here in UK (Lithuania Embassy as they both are Lithuanians) what documentation they need to provide to get religious ceremony in Tenerife?
3. If they would do blessing ceremony on the beach can real priest give them a blessing or it has to be done just in church?
Thank you for any help

HELP NEEDED!!
I am travelling to Tenerife in May with my family. There will be ten of us in total, one adult who is disabled. I am trying to find out if there is anywhere or anyone who hires out wheelchair accessible mini buses so we can all travel together to minimise the number of cars we would need. The adult who is wheelchair bound needs to be in his chair at all times so the mini bus would have to be quite large to fit him and the other nine of us in.
All help would be gratefully received.
Many thanks,

Just back from holiday in Las Americas, and found out that we have been totally ripped off by scumbags. At Simon's we believed them, it seemed like a good deal. How wrong we were. Looks like we will be losing around 3,000 and feel numb and angry. How are these thieves able to get away with it? They told us lies about the amount that we would be charged and actually put more on the card, put the receipt in the box, but when we got home we found that it was not there. And it seems we can't do any thing about it. How can this be fair? NO HOLIDAY FOR US NEXT YEAR.

If for example you purchase an electrical item from one of these very helpful shopkeepers in Tenerife or elsewhere and you use your credit card to make the payment, then, having left the store you examine the receipt carefully and realise that helpful shopkeeper "had made a mistake" with the credit card machine perhaps adding a few extra noughts.
You would be acting perfectly normal and within your rights surely if you contacted your credit card company to cancel the transaction.
It would then be the responsibility of the shopkeeper to explain himself/herself as to why he keeps making a mistake!
Will it now be acceptable for Mr Mistake to make arrangements to recover the goods ?
I personally would of course be as helpful as possible.

Dear Sir/Madam
Please help us! We have been dealing with a supposed lawyer called Juan Luis Partalabo from law firm Legitimos. They are telling us we have won a case for timeshare compensation and that we need to pay the taxes up front according to Spanish law. We have voiced our concerns as some websites suggest these are a scamming company. They have sent us a whole pile of papers which all seem very official but they are all in Spanish. There is a lot of money at stake and we need to know from an independent organisation if they are genuine. We have spent hours searching the internet and are no further forward. We even have a case number but do not know how to proceed. We really need someone's help.

I am a coeliac i.e. sin gluten and having great difficulty finding a restaurant that specifically caters for a GF diet. Love Italian and was hoping for a restaurant who does sin gluten pasta. Was told about one in Playa de Arena only to find they're closed on holiday until 20 May I go home on 17th! Not greatly enamoured of grilled dishes without a sauce and they all seem to use flour (I can eat cornflour) to thicken. Surely the restaurants here can try to do better for people with this allergy as they do in other countries. Would also be grateful if you know of a supermarket that sells sin gluten pasta then I could cook my own. Grateful for any help you can offer.
