I've had run-ins with ants many a time in Tenerife. I don't think they're that different from the ones we get in the UK - and I'd be very surprised to be bitten by one!

They're extremely hard to get rid of and you usually have to end up calling in a pest control expert. There are many in Tenerife and they'll rid your apartment of ants and any other pests, such as cockroaches.

By the way, if the apartment you were staying in was on a complex, you should have visited the office and told them about the problem and they should have then taken steps to do something about it.

These ants are pharaoh's ants. In the UK we use a protein bait called Biopren over an 8 week period. The most important thing is not to spray or gell or powder these ants because when you do they feel like they are under attack, so they scatter and set up more nests. Www.getridov.co.uk
