There may come a time during your stay in Tenerife that you decide to step your dining experience up a notch and really push the boat out - a special treat when expense is not an issue.

Well, a good choice to satify this wish is this remarkable restaurant situated in one of the best possible locations in the fashionable area of Adeje.

La Torre del Mirador is right on the beachfront, overlooking what may be one of the best beaches on the island. It is found right behind the luxurious Hotel El Mirador and you can only get to it on foot, by going down the walkway at the side of the hotel to reach the promenade.

The restaurant itself is styled after a classical Canarian mansion and consists of several buildings, plus two large terraces. Inside the restaurant, in addition to the large, main area, you'll find maybe a dozen small anterooms, for some slightly more intimate dining. The lower terrace is closed Sundays, but, when open, is more for evening dining.

Restaurant Manager Cristobal Sides comes from a family of restauranteurs and always makes sure his waiting staff is friendly, efficient and attentive. Food service is famous for being really fast. That said, once you are allocated your table, it's yours for the night - there is no rushing you to finish up and leave, to make way for the next diners. No, you can linger as long as you want.

And a linger is well worth doing, for, during the evening, you can avail yourself of the live entertainment, provided by keyboard/vocalist Ged Roberts. He provides a laid-back, ambient, unobtrusive musical background to your experience and there is space for you to get up and dance, should you so wish.

Foodwise, the menu is first and foremost Canarian and Spanish, but there are other, more international flavours available, too.

The restaurant's website lists its specialities as marinated tuna salad, smoked salmon with melba bread and sea bass a la marinera or Bilbaina.

Torre del Mirador tends to get pretty full by around 8pm and, if you turn up unannounced any later than that, it's likely you'll be turned away. An earlier arrival is advised, or a telephone reservation.

All in all, if you're prepared to spend a little extra, this restaurant will provide one of your most memorable dining experiences.
