la rosa di bari tenerife

In 1999, chef Giorgio Girolimini and business partner Juan Fumero arrived in Tenerife and established their restaurant in Puerto de La Cruz. Both children of the 1960s, they come from very different backgrounds.

Giorgio hails from the area of Italy known as Apulia, on the Adriatic coast in the south of the country. In fact, the name of the restaurant, La Rosa di Bari ("the rose of Bari"), is named after the capital city of that region.

After a brief stint working in a bank, he persued his true passion - creative gastronomy. He honed his skills in some of the most prestigious Italian restaurants and, these days, his knowledge of traditional Italian cooking allows him to create authentic dishes, to which he adds his own unique twist, but always retaining that true Italian legacy.

Juan was born in Venezuela and has had a lifelong passion for painting. Indeed, many of his works hang in the restaurant, along with those of other local artists and all of them are for sale.

He combines his time behind the easel with duties as Maitre d' of the establishment. Ever attentive, he affords customers the perfect welcome and promotes courtesy and warm hospitality.

You'll find the restaurant on a smart pedestrianised walkway in the charming old quarter of Puerto de La Cruz. Dating from the turn of the 20th century, it has a stylish, though austere, exterior, but, on entering the building, you'll find a warm, welcoming decor.

Divided into small rooms, it is the ideal place for an intimate dinner.

The menu, of course, features all the Italian classics, with such things as the king prawn parmesan fondue, the ravioli and the tagliatelle with clams and mushrooms being worthy of note.

Meat dishes are well represented, including such novelties as quail, Venetian-style liver and duck breast.

You'll have a good choice of dessert, too, with, obviously, tiramisu, but also such delights as "Grandmother's Cake" with apple puree and chocolate souffle.

La Rosa Di Bari is hailed by many as one of the best and most authentic Italian restaurants in Puerto de La Cruz.

Here's how to find this excellent Italian restaurant.

From the TF-5 north motorway, exit at junction 35, taking the TF-320 road towards Puerto de La Cruz. Stick to this road for a good while, until you come to a sort of roundabout. Take the second exit (in effect going straight on). You eventually come to a large roundabout-type junction, where you should go left (signed "Playa Jardin").

Stay on this road until you come to some traffic lights, where you should turn right. This is a one-way street and you should watch out carefully for a building on the right called Centro Educativo Matilde Tellez and turn left immediately after this.

You'll eventually be on a narrow, one-way side street and should be looking for a parking space.

Off this street is the pedestrianised Calle del Lomo. Turn left onto this and you'll come to the red-fronted restaurant, on the left.
