La Caldera Campsite - just south of La Orotava

La Caldera campsite is situated amongst the pine trees just south of La Orotava in the north of the island.

Although covering a large area of 10,000 square metres, it doesn't seem very well equipped with basic amenities.

There is no access to running water, no toilets, no shower blocks and no disabled access.

The one thing it does have is parking space.

There is room to accomodate 50 people and these 50 people can avail themselves of the "recreation area", which is open until 7pm in the winter and 9pm in the summer.

The campsite is administered by the Office Manager, who can be contacted on 922 330701.

To find the campsite, exit the TF-5 north motorway at junction 32. From the west, you'll then come to a roundabout, where you should take the first exit (signed La Orotava). From the east, come off the motorway, then take a left off the slip road, then left immediately again. This will take you under the motorway, after which you should bear left.

Eventually, you'll come to a roundabout, where you should take the first exit (signed Risco Caido and La Orotava). Follow this for some time till you arrive at a T-junction, where you turn right.

This is the TF-21 road and this is the one you should stick to. On this, you'll come soon to a large open space (still in the town) with fountains and you should go left. This winding road will now take you into the pine forests.

You'll eventually arrive at the campsite (you'll see loads of cars and camper vans parked up on a hair-pin bend).
