I am sorry but I may have been given incorrect information re charges made by the English doctor, Karen Whittaker. The first consultation fee is 30 euros, but is reduced to 18 euros for subsequent visits. She is an excellent doctor and highly recommended.

Hi Margaret.

If you're okay with paying that amount at Dr Whittaker's surgery, you should opt for that.

An EHIC card may cover you for blood tests on the Spanish national health system, but you'll have to go to a National Health hospital, wait with a load of other people (who are not aware of the concept of queueing), then deal with a nurse who only speaks Spanish.

I think Dr Whittaker is the better bet, don't you?

Thank you for your comment John. Yes, I have already decided to go to Karen and have arranged an appointment for next week when I arrive back in Tenerife.

Since it is not an emergency, I would not be able to get this done at Hospiten Sur or use the Spanish health service.
