Il Piccolo Tenerife - traditional home-cooked Italian cuisine

The area of Los Cristianos called San Telmo contains numerous restaurants and bars and Piccolo is one of them.

A restaurant dealing in Italian cuisine, especially pizza and pasta, it is a very informal, rustic establishment, with most of its seating being out on the open-air terrace, overlooking the beautiful Las Vistas beach and the Atlantic Ocean.

Whilst not being a basic restaurante típico, it is certainly not "fancy" and with this lack of pretention comes some very reasonable prices.

Food is very much based on traditional, home-cooked Italian methods and recommended dishes include the starter for two, consisting of a selection of meats, cheeses and pasta, carbonara made the correct Italian way, with eggs, not cream and authentic, thin crust pizza. All pasta is freshly made on the premises. Regarding desserts, it has been said that the restaurant's tiramisu is the best on the island.

This restaurant appears to be very popular and can often get very full. It is advisable, therefore, to reserve a table in advance.

On arrival, don't be surprised to be kept waiting for up to 15 minutes to be seated (even if you've booked).

There are conflicting comments on various forums as to the quality of service. Some customers have complained that waiters can be a little surly and have a "don't care" attitude. Conversely, others have waxed lyrical on how friendly and attentive they are. If you visit, you'll have to form your own opinion.

I think the best bet is, don't go there if you're in a rush!

To find San Telmo, start from the church square in the centre of Los Cristianos. Walk up the hill to the right of the church, then turn left onto the road passing behind it. Follow this to the end, where you'll find a large roundabout.

Look across the roundabout for the Slowboat Chinese restaurant, which is the start of the San Telmo strip. Walk down to the right from this restaurant and you'll soon come to Il Piccolo.
