Casa Lala Puerto de La Cruz - a traditional Canarian restaurant

casa lala puerto de la cruz

Found in the area of El Durazno, on the outskirts of Puerto de La Cruz, this small, unassuming Canarian restaurant attracts both holidaymakers and locals, who return time and time again.

This is a good sign from the word go! Especially patronage from locals, who want good food at reasonable prices. Casa Lala delivers just this.

Occupying an ordinary old Canarian house, this charmingly rustic restaurant has two inside rooms and a courtyard, capable of accommodating 28 and 14 people respectively. Hence it is a very intimate dining experience.

In operation for some 60 years, it was famous for sticking to traditional Canarian cuisine of excellent quality.

More recently, it has been taken over by chef Antonio Aguilar, who, while keeping the Canarian tradition, has made a few small innovations of his own.

On the menu you'll find Canarian staples, such as gofio, ropa vieja and conejo en salmorejo. There is a superb selection of meats, fish and seafood.

Everything is prepared using the freshest ingredients and cooked to order.

To accompany your meal, Antonio (a wine lover himself) has ensured that there is an excellent wine cellar - the restaurant even has a sign saying "La Bodega de Antonio"!

Waiting staff are Spanish or Canarian and may not be that fluent in English, but it's possible to get by.

You'll certainly experience value for money - especially if you call in for lunch, where there is an offer of three courses for 10 euros!

The restaurant has specials for each day of the week - all classic Canarian dishes.

It is situated on Camino Durazno, which is quite an arduous walk from the centre of Puerto (it's all uphill!). Far better to take a taxi - you'll be there in no time.

If you're in the south, you'd have to be really keen on visiting this restaurant, as the journey by car takes over a hour! The quickest way is to stick to the motorways. From TF-1, leave at junction 6A onto TF-2. Follow the signs for TF-5 and eventually merge onto it. Leave TF-5 at junction 32, onto TF-31. Watch out, eventually, for "Puerto de La Cruz" in big letters on your left and leave the TF-31 at this point. Follow the road round and it takes you over the road you've just left. You should then take your next left (Calle Casa Grande). You pass three roads off to the right, then arrive at a fork in the road, where you should bear right. This is now the road where the restaurant is and you'll eventually see it, on your right
