Casa del Vino La Baranda is a wine museum situated in the charming, northern village of El Sauzal.
Yes, you read that right - a museum dedicated to wine! But there's slightly more to it than that.
The building housing the various facets of this museum is a converted country estate house, one of many built years ago by well-to-do families as a second home in the country.
Its style reflects the architecture of the time, having designs of Portuguese and Castilian influences, including a strikingly beautiful, perfectly preserved chapel.
Let's consider the various facilities in the Casa.
The Museum
This, the main part of the Casa, offers comprehensive information on the history of Tenerife wines, together with the situation of the Tenerife wine growing industry of today.
On offer are guided tours for groups of visitors.

The Wine Cellar
The Wine Cellar displays over 300 different types of wine, all produced on the island of Tenerife. As well as the usual selection of red, rose and white, there are examples of sparkling wine, fortified wines, including the inimitable Malmsey.
Probably the most important room for visitors! Situated in one of the estate's outhouses, next to the Wine Cellar, this offers a chance to sample the wine. A total of 12 different wines can be tried and cheese and nuts are provided as an accompaniment.
You can also sample a selection of honey from the museum next door, La Casa de La Miel.
The Shop
A souvenir store, selling various traditional artefacts concerned with farming in Tenerife, plus a range of honey, cheese, sweets, mojo sauces, etc.
The Projection Room
The Casa can cater for various cultural activities, such as lectures, presentations, concerts or wine tasting courses and they are all held in this room. Visitors to the centre can watch here a documentary about the history and development of Tenerife wine.
The Restaurant and Wine Bar
A rustic eating and drinking place, serving traditional Canarian cuisine, accompanied by, of course, the best Tenerife wine.
A notable feature is the terrace, which, as the museum is located right near the coast, offers breathtaking views of the ocean.
