Camping Montaña Roja - a well equipped campsite at El Medano

This campsite, known, in English, as Red Mountain Camping, is situated in a very enviable position mere yards away from Playa de La Tejita at El Medano.

It has an impressive array of ameneties and is suitable for those who want the camping experience tinged with a little luxury.

Found within the Montaña Roja Reserva Natural Especial, or "Special Nature Reserve", it occupies an area of nearly 250,000 square feet. This is a securely fenced area and there are 24-hour security patrols plus CCTV cameras.

With a capacity of 300 people, there are spaces for 68 tents and opportunities for up to 25 caravans and motorhomes.

As well as having its own access to La Tejita beach, with all the attendant windsurfing and kitesurfing opportunities associated with El Medano, there is an impressive array of facilites on site.

There are two bathroom blocks, providing 16 shower units, with hot water provided by solar power, 16 bathrooms and 16 washrooms.

Always useful in this sort of environment is a laundry room, with washing machine and dryer.

Leisure activites are catered for with the presence of a cafeteria/restaurant and a children's play area.

The campsite is open 365 days a year.

Prices, per night, quoted here are from Montana Roja's official website, but are from 2011, so the up to date ones may be a little higher (plus the wording used is a translation from the original Spanish - sometimes, your guess is as good as mine).

To find this campsite is quite simple.

You can get the bus - number 470 from Los Cristianos; number 483 from Las Americas.

Or, you can drive. From the Las Chafiras area (accessed at junction 24 of the TF-1 motorway), follow the sign for Los Abrigos. Drive straight down into the village and, when you reach a roundabout, take the second exit, effectively turning left.

Follow this road for a while and, shortly after going straight on at a roundabout, you'll see a fence on the right with "CAMPING" in big letters.
