Blaydon Races Tenerife is a very popular cabaret bar in the heart of the Patch. Over the years, however, it has had quite a varied history.
Since its inception, a good few years ago, it became one of the most "go-to" bars in Las Americas, supplying good family entertainment and friendly staff.
The bar was blessed with the presence of the excellent drag act "Roxy Risque" as compere, who also performed a full act there twice a week. After three years of this, however, Roxy decided to leave and go onto the cabaret circuit.
It was after that (sometime in 2009) when the bar seemed to start to experience difficulties, with rumours of it closing down. Eventually, ownership changed hands a couple of times.
Finally, Roxy - apparently tired of playing the cabaret circuit - took over the bar herself.
It is now called "Roxy Risque's Blaydon Races".
The bar is open every night except Fridays, 9pm till late. It tends to get packed out, so be early if you want a seat.
Roxy performs a show on Mondays, then a different one on Thurdays. Other nights, she comperes the shows, always featuring top Tenerife cabaret acts.
To find Blaydon Races, you walk down the Patch heading towards the ocean, then, immediately after the Drunk 'n' Duck bar to your left, take some stairs going up to the first floor. You'll soon see the bar.
Many customers - children to grandparents and everyone in between - revisit Blaydon Races time and time again. Now that's a recommendation!
