Anchor Bar Tenerife - live entertainment and late karaoke

Search This Site

The Anchor Bar Tenerife is a large bar in the centre of Playa de Las Americas. It occupies a corner location on the main street Avenida Santiago Puig that leads from the partially pedestrianised road containing Patch and Veronicas, heading away from the sea.

For many years, these premises were a different bar, Spanish run, known as Escala. I worked there a couple of times and, back then, it seemed to attract a more mature audience.

These days, I feel, it has been rebranded as The Anchor to appeal to younger holidaymakers.

The bar is open long hours, beginning at 11am and not closing its doors until 4am!

Through the day, the bar offers "pub grub", as well as the usual array of drinks. It is a good spot to chill out and indulge in a spot of people-watching (you're bang in the centre of town, after all).

On offer, meal-wise, are breakfasts and lunches.

The bar also features a huge wall-TV screen and all major sporting events are shown.

There is a small recreation area in one corner, containing a couple of pool tables.

Regarding the evenings, you may care to sample the Anchor's bewildering array of cocktails. While you're doing this, you can enjoy the entertainment.

For the early evening (and I stress that this is as far as I know), there is a resident duo consisting of Robert and Graham. I understand that there may also be guest cabaret on maybe two nights of the week.

Regarding this, you'll need to check out the notice boards outside the bar.

Come midnight, the karaoke session kicks in, compered, every weekday, by Bart Bogaert. He'll keep things swinging till around 3:30am!

The bar premises are spacious and airy. There is an outside terrace if you don't want to be hemmed in amongst the crowds inside (and it does get crowded).

Many postings on the bar's Facebook page absolutely rave about it.

To find it, get yourself to the prominent landmark of the Las Palmeras Hotel. With this to your left, walk a short distance along the partially pedestrianised walkway till you come to a major junction (green and white striped poles in the road). Turn right up this street. Presently, you should arrive at the bar on the left.
